IDF Deputy Chief of Staff to Investigate General Over Classified Data Leak Allegations

Israel's military prosecution has decided that Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, will conduct a thorough command investigation into a Brigadier General. This follows a complaint alleging conflicts of interest and the transfer of classified information to an unauthorized individual.

The investigation stems from a detailed complaint filed by a Major, a commander and combat soldier. The complaint reportedly links the Brigadier General's alleged actions to a personal relationship, which purportedly led to serious misconduct. The Major submitted a written report to his superiors in early May, which was subsequently passed up the chain of command within the IDF.

This led to an investigation by the special investigations unit of the Military Police. The probe examined claims of conflicts of interest, exceeding authority, and abuse of power. Suspicions of information security violations and unbecoming conduct for an officer of his rank were also reviewed. Evidence was gathered and testimonies were taken during this phase.

The military prosecution's decision means the case will now move to the command investigation led by the Deputy Chief of Staff. The outcome of this investigation will determine whether disciplinary actions will be taken against the Brigadier General and what those actions might entail.
