M.S. Ashdod has filed a formal complaint to the Israeli Football Association through attorney Amit Hadad, alleging that players from Ironi Tiberias may have used prohibited intravenous infusions before the teams met in the lower playoff. Ashdod says the match ended 3-0 to Tiberias, a result that left Ashdod below the relegation line in the 30th round of the Premier League and, by season’s end, led to its relegation.
According to Ashdod’s claim, Tiberias players allegedly received an infusion amount said to be ten times the permitted limit. Ashdod also says that Tiberias players discussed the issue with Ashdod players, and that in recent weeks the club has gathered testimony, recordings, and additional material about the case.
An association source told ynet that “very soon you will hear about severe punishments that players will receive,” adding that WADA has the authority to prosecute the players, not the club. The source said players could face heavy sanctions first, after which Tiberias’s punishment would also be examined, and that investigators are collecting testimony and recordings to clarify the matter.
The Israeli Football Association said it had received Ashdod’s official complaint and that the issue is under professional investigation, with WADA already notified. The National Anti-Doping Agency also said it is working with the association and will do everything needed to get to the truth and, if necessary, hold those responsible accountable. Ironi Tiberias said coach Eliran Hodda is currently on a family vacation abroad, and upon his return he will respond if needed. The club said it fully backs Hodda, believes any action taken was lawful, and urged the public not to judge based on media reports alone.
