Former Maccabi Haifa Player Recalls Unpleasant Exit and Israeli Experience

Former Maccabi Haifa midfielder Kamil Vacek has reflected on his time in Israel, describing it as a period of significant learning and a "crazy experience" that ultimately ended on an "unpleasant note." Vacek, who played for the Israeli club during the 2016-2017 season, recently spoke to Radiožurnál Sport in the Czech Republic about his memories.

He recalled the passionate Israeli football fans, noting the large crowds and the airport reception he received upon arrival, which contrasted with his initial uncertainty about playing in the league. Vacek praised the Israeli healthcare system, mentioning that his son was born in Israel. He also credited his coach at the time, René Meulensteen, who had a long tenure with Manchester United, for teaching him "how to play football correctly."

Vacek recounted a specific incident where he was startled by a loud boom during a training session, which turned out to be a routine test of air raid sirens. He explained that while the foreign players reacted with fear, locals informed them it was a regular occurrence, highlighting a moment of cultural misunderstanding.

The player's departure from Maccabi Haifa was abrupt. Vacek stated that his tenure concluded strangely when coach Meulensteen was dismissed due to disagreements with management. This led to Vacek and the other foreign players being sidelined, which he described as an "unpleasant ending" that can happen in such circumstances.
