Israel National Football Team Match in Austria Under High Security Amid Protest Fears

Austria is implementing extensive security measures for the upcoming UEFA Nations League match between Israel and Austria, scheduled for Thursday in Linz. The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has classified the game as requiring "especially high security" due to anticipated protests and heightened tensions surrounding the match.

According to the Austrian Press Agency (APA), two pro-Palestinian demonstrations are already planned in Linz ahead of the game. UEFA will actively participate in the security arrangements, dispatching two security officers to coordinate with local police, the Austrian Football Association, and Israeli officials. Security discussions are set to begin Wednesday evening and continue through the match day.

The primary concern is that tensions could spill over into the stadium vicinity and seating areas. Pro-Palestinian groups are active in Linz, and authorities are preparing for potential protests related to the Israeli national team's arrival. UEFA regulations prohibiting the display of flags from non-participating countries are also expected to be strictly enforced.
