Israeli App CheaPark Simplifies Parking Search and Cost Comparison

Finding parking in major cities is a frustrating task, often involving not just locating a spot but also understanding costs, distances, and potential discounts. Addressing this need, CheaPark, a free Israeli app, has emerged to compare parking garage prices and availability in real-time.

The app was developed by 27-year-old software developer Ido Barri, a resident of central Tel Aviv. The idea stemmed from his personal difficulty finding parking for his girlfriend, which required considering arrival time, parking duration, various rates, discounts, distance from the destination, and available spots. Barri created the app himself in a few weeks using Claude Code, with his girlfriend serving as the initial tester.

Initially operating discreetly, CheaPark was shared among friends, garnering around 1,200 downloads. Following a wider release, the number of downloads surged to over 8,000 within a week, propelling the app to the number one spot in Israel's free App Store rankings.

Users input their destination, desired walking distance, arrival time, and planned parking duration. They can also add relevant discounts, such as resident or student rates. CheaPark then displays suitable parking garages, detailing total cost, distance, and real-time availability. The app calculates the actual price for the user, factoring in discounts, and conservatively estimates costs based on the higher potential scenario to prevent unexpected charges.

Currently operational in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Herzliya, and Haifa, CheaPark is available for iPhones, with an Android version in development. Barri continues to manage the app independently, releasing 2-3 updates weekly based on user feedback. The next phase involves expanding the service to more cities, particularly large urban centers and employment hubs where parking is a significant issue.
