The Jungle Book Musical Returns to Israel with Original Cast

The beloved Israeli musical adaptation of "The Jungle Book" is set to return this Hanukkah, performing at the Haifa Convention Center. Directed by Hanoch Rosen, who helmed the original 1996 production, the show features much of its original cast from three decades ago. This revival aims to capture both new audiences and parents who grew up with the musical, which has been seen by over half a million people since its debut.

Key original cast members reprising their roles include Tuvia Tzafir as Baloo the bear, Shai Keshter as Bagheera the panther, Eli Danker as Shere Khan the tiger, Yossi Toledo as Kaa the snake, Avi Yaffe as Pakli the squirrel, and Pini Kidron as the leader of the elephants. Six pairs of children will alternate in the role of Mowgli.

Rosen stated that the revival stays true to the original magical musical from 30 years ago, while adding a touch of Broadway through updated sets, flying effects, and a soundtrack, supported by an energetic team of dancers and acrobats. He emphasized the goal of connecting the original beloved cast with this new energy.

The production, which first reopened two years ago to significant success, combines the original songs by Miron Minster and Ephraim Sidon, with a contemporary musical arrangement by Ben Shofon. The story of Mowgli, the human boy raised by wolves, and his jungle adventures is presented as a symphony of sights and sounds. Technological advancements have allowed for upgraded sets and costumes while preserving the original magic.
