French President Emmanuel Macron hosted U.S. President Donald Trump at a formal dinner at the Palace of Versailles, but the evening was reportedly overshadowed by a dramatic announcement of an agreement between Washington and Tehran. According to the report, Trump decided to sign the deal himself during the dinner, prompting Secretary of State Marco Rubio to rush around the historic palace in a frantic search for a printer.
The focus then shifted to a luxury hotel in Bürgenstock, in central Switzerland, a secluded location chosen for the next stage of the talks. AFP reported that the meeting scheduled for Friday was postponed at the last minute.
The delay was said to stem from Israeli military activity against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Journalists waiting at airports were left with nothing, while Iranian officials reacted coolly and said there was “no urgency.”
Even so, another meeting is still expected in the coming days.
