Macron and Trump Discuss Ukraine, Iran, and Middle East Stability

French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. President Donald Trump met in New York on Monday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The leaders discussed the ongoing conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, according to Macron. The meeting, held at Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan, was described by Macron as "very good" and "constructive."

Following the discussion, Macron announced via his X account that the two leaders had agreed to work together to reduce tensions in energy markets. This collaboration will involve protecting critical infrastructure in the Middle East and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. They also committed to uniting forces to guarantee a moratorium on attacks against energy infrastructure and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

Macron emphasized the importance of protecting civilian populations and initiating serious negotiations for peace between Russia and Ukraine as soon as possible. He also stressed the urgent need for swift and robust aid to Ukraine, specifically mentioning interceptors.

Both Trump and Macron were scheduled to address world leaders and diplomats at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Trump's meeting with Macron occurred shortly after he met with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and is expected to meet with Arab leaders from the Gulf on Tuesday.
