Maccabi Tel Aviv has been recognized as a potential surprise contender in the upcoming EuroLeague basketball season, according to a survey of team managers. The club received 26.7% of the votes for the 'dark horse' title, tying with Zalgiris Kaunas for the top spot. This designation comes just before the season's official start on Thursday, with Maccabi Tel Aviv scheduled to play an away game against ASVEL Villeurbanne.
Despite playing most of their home games in a neutral venue, managers noted Maccabi Tel Aviv's strengthened roster, which includes new additions like Keinan Wallace, Daniel Theis, Bonzie Colson, and Yam Madar. These signings have contributed to the perception of the team as a potential dark horse.
In the same survey, managers predicted Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Real Madrid, and Fenerbahce as the favorites to reach the Final Four. Dubai was ranked fifth. Notably, Hapoel Tel Aviv, another Israeli team, was not included in the Final Four predictions. The survey also identified Sasha Vezenkov as the leading candidate for the MVP award.
