Knesset Election Committee Reviews Disqualification Petitions
The Central Elections Committee for the 26th Knesset, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, began a two-day session on Wednesday to review petitions seeking to disqualify electoral lists and candidates. The committee convened at 9 AM and will conclude its session at 8:30 PM on Wednesday, and from 9 AM to 5 PM on Thursday.
During the opening, Committee Chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg delivered remarks. Subsequently, a representative from the Likud party presented their petition to disqualify Ofer Cassif, a Knesset member from the Hadash party. The committee also noted three petitions to disqualify the United Arab List, filed by the Otzma Yehudit, Likud, and Liberal National Movement parties.
Further petitions included two requests to disqualify the Otzma Yehudit list, submitted by the Democrats party and the Zulat, for Equality and Human Rights institute. The Otzma Yehudit party also filed a petition to disqualify the Democrats list, led by Yair Golan. The Zulat institute requested the disqualification of the Religious Zionism list, headed by Bezalel Smotrich. Another petition, filed by the Orot Ha'shachar party, sought to disqualify the National Democratic Assembly.
Additionally, the Likud party submitted a request to disqualify the Joint List and its candidate Ofer Cassif. The Otzma Yehudit party also petitioned to disqualify Sami Abu Shehadeh.
