Israeli Premier League Players Face Fines for Misconduct and Leaks
Players in Israel's top soccer league, the Premier League, are subject to a detailed schedule of fines for various infractions, as revealed on the sports program "Yatzi'a Ha'itonut - Shlishi Ba'Koterot." These penalties are outlined in an addendum to their contracts, mandated by the Football Association.
According to reporter Ran Booker, a player can be fined up to 50% of their monthly salary, capped at NIS 20,000, for unjustified absence from a match. Other offenses carry significant penalties as well. Reckless behavior, extreme sports participation, or refusing medical or psychological evaluations can result in fines of up to NIS 8,000.
Leaking information or speaking to journalists without authorization also incurs a fine of up to NIS 8,000. Additional penalties include up to NIS 4,000 for unjustified lateness to a match, a second yellow card for provocation, or absence from training. A single yellow card for provocation or lateness to training can lead to fines of up to NIS 2,000.
The Football Association also reserves the right to impose an "administrative fine" of up to NIS 750 on players.
