Qatar Emir Slams Israel's Gaza Actions as 'Genocide' at UN

The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, delivered a strong condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon during a UN General Assembly session, labeling the situation in Gaza as "genocide." He urged the international community to enforce international law more effectively, calling the events in Gaza a severe test and a "disgrace to humanity."

Israel has rejected these accusations, asserting that its military operates in accordance with international law while Hamas uses civilian populations and infrastructure for military purposes. The Emir criticized the global response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as insufficient and expressed concern that future generations would question the disparity between the crisis's scale and international efforts.

Al Thani also denounced statements from Israeli politicians regarding the potential resettlement of Gaza's residents, suggesting that discussions of "encouraged emigration" could amount to forced displacement. He countered arguments that criticism of Israel stems from antisemitism or foreign campaigns, stating that Israeli politicians sometimes resort to accusing opponents rather than addressing claims.

Referencing video evidence, the Emir suggested that Israeli soldiers had not concealed their alleged crimes. He also highlighted Qatar's role as a mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas, facilitating ceasefire and hostage release agreements. Israel, however, has criticized Qatar for hosting Hamas leadership and providing financial support to the group.

Furthermore, the Emir expressed concern over the stalled disarmament plan for Hamas, accusing Israel of failing to meet obligations regarding military strikes, troop withdrawal, and humanitarian aid. He also criticized the situation in the West Bank, alleging persecution of Palestinians, settler violence, restrictions on self-determination, and pressure on religious sites. His remarks extended to actions in Lebanon and Syria, condemning the creation of buffer zones and the destruction of villages, which he likened to events in Palestine and questioned Israel's commitment to stability and international law.
