Erdogan, Qatar Emir, Jordan King Warn UN on Israeli Actions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Jordan's King Abdullah II addressed the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, each delivering strong condemnations of Israeli policies and actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and the wider region.

Erdogan described the situation as a "bloodthirsty genocide mentality" and called Gaza the "world's largest graveyard for children" and "the most inhumane and shameful mass detention camp of our age." He also highlighted "settler terrorism" in the West Bank and restrictions on access to holy sites in Jerusalem, expressing confidence that a free Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital within 1967 borders will be established. He criticized the UN's effectiveness in resolving conflicts.

Qatar's Emir echoed these sentiments, labeling Israeli actions in Gaza as "genocide" and a "stain on the conscience of humanity." He noted that Israeli leaders are openly discussing the "displacement" or "migration" of Gazans and warned that Israeli aggression has extended to neighboring countries like Syria and Lebanon. He urged Israel to fulfill its commitments to cease operations, withdraw from Gaza, and lift the blockade.

King Abdullah II warned that Israel's "expansionist ambitions" under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pose a regional threat, citing repeated incursions and territorial expansion in Syria. He characterized Israeli actions in the West Bank as "forced displacement," a war crime, and part of a policy to expel Palestinians. He stated that Jordan will protect its security and water resources, warning that any threat to its northern borders or water security is a threat to its national security.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also spoke, stating that the scale of killing and destruction in Gaza since October 7, 2023, is unprecedented in his tenure. While calling Hamas's attacks "abhorrent," he noted the subsequent "campaign against Palestinians in Gaza" and urged all parties to comply with international law and the International Court of Justice's legally binding provisional measures. Guterres also warned that Israeli violence, settlement expansion in the West Bank, and the potential disappearance of the two-state solution undermine peace prospects.
