Emir of Qatar Slams Israel's Gaza Actions as 'Genocide' at UN

The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, delivered a strong condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza during a UN General Assembly session, labeling the situation "genocide in every sense of the word" and a "disgrace to humanity." He urged the international community to enforce international law more effectively, stating that the events in Gaza represent a severe test for global solidarity. Al Thani criticized the world's response to the humanitarian catastrophe as insufficient, predicting future generations would question the disparity between the crisis's scale and international efforts.

Al Thani also specifically denounced Israeli politicians' discussions of potentially relocating Gaza residents, viewing "encouraged emigration" as a euphemism for forced displacement. He rejected claims that criticism of Israel stems from antisemitism or foreign campaigns, asserting that Israeli politicians sometimes resort to accusing opponents rather than addressing criticisms. Referencing online videos, the Emir suggested Israeli soldiers had not concealed their alleged "crimes."

He highlighted Qatar's role as a mediator in negotiations between Israel and Hamas, facilitating ceasefire and hostage release agreements. Israel, however, has previously criticized Qatar for hosting Hamas leadership and providing financial support. Doha maintains Israel requested its mediation and aid assistance for Gaza.

The Qatari leader expressed concern over the stalled disarmament of Hamas, accusing Israel of failing to meet obligations regarding military strikes, troop withdrawal from Gaza, and increased humanitarian aid.

Furthermore, Al Thani criticized Israel's conduct in the West Bank, citing Palestinian persecution, settler violence, restrictions on self-determination, and pressure on religious sites. He also condemned Israeli actions in Lebanon and Syria, including the creation of buffer zones and the destruction of villages, drawing parallels to events in Palestine and questioning Israel's commitment to regional stability and international law.
