Hamas Planned Ambushes to Abduct Soldiers in Gaza, Report Says
Dozens of Hamas operatives reportedly prepared ambushes against Israeli forces in eastern Gaza City with the aim of killing and abducting soldiers, according to a report by Moshe Noy on JNS. The first incident occurred on September 4, when Israeli forces operating east of the "yellow line" (a reference to the Gaza border) came under fire. The IDF responded with an attack, reporting no casualties. JNS claims a large explosive device system was prepared at the scene, and the following day, the bodies of ten militants were found, with evidence suggesting dozens more had been in the area.
On September 6, the IDF confirmed an engineering vehicle detonated a Hamas explosive device near the yellow line, again without casualties. A similar incident occurred on September 21, when another engineering vehicle hit an explosive device, prompting an IDF response targeting Hamas infrastructure.
The report emerges as Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned of intelligence and intentions regarding potential abductions. Katz stated that if an Israeli soldier or civilian is abducted, Israel will launch a broad operation in Gaza City.
