UN Chief Accuses Israel of Actions 'Approaching Ethnic Cleansing' in West Bank
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated Tuesday at the UN General Assembly in New York that Israel's actions in the West Bank are "approaching ethnic cleansing." Guterres also described the destruction in Gaza as the "most extensive he has ever seen," noting it has been nearly three years since the Hamas attacks of October 7.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also used the UN platform to criticize Israel, particularly regarding the war in Gaza. Lula stated that "generations of Palestinians will carry the trauma of the genocide committed by the Netanyahu government in Gaza."
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Thursday, where he is expected to discuss Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran. The Iranian delegation, including its president and foreign minister, is also attending the assembly after receiving visas from the United States.
