Brazil's President Lula Accuses Netanyahu Government of Genocide at UN
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to launch a sharp new attack on Israel, accusing the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of committing genocide.
"Generations of Palestinians will bear the pain and trauma caused by the genocide committed by the Netanyahu government," Lula stated during his address. This accusation follows months of increasingly strong anti-Israel rhetoric from the Brazilian president.
In February 2024, Lula previously drew widespread condemnation and led to Israel declaring him persona non grata after he compared Israel's actions in Gaza to the Holocaust. Jerusalem strongly rejected his remarks at the time.
