Colombia’s president compared Israel to the Nazis, Ambassador Danon says, “It’s unclear what he took”
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who sparked an uproar last week when he tweeted “Heil Hitler,” addressed the UN Security Council and compared the war in Gaza to the Nazi regime. “20,000 people have been killed in Gaza. These numbers cannot be hidden. We are returning to the Nazi era,” he said.
Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, responded that “it’s unclear what he took before this morning’s discussion, but nothing justifies his remarks.” According to him, “giving legitimacy to this kind of rhetoric harms the memory of the Holocaust and undermines the credibility of the UN.”
