Renowned Rebbetzin Chana Rotenberg, Holocaust Education Advocate, Dies at 72

Rebbetzin Chana Rotenberg, a prominent educator and author known for her work on Holocaust remembrance, passed away Tuesday at the age of 72 after a difficult illness. She bore her suffering in silence to avoid distressing her elderly mother.

Rotenberg was the author of the best-selling book 'How Did I Not Know?' and a notable speaker who focused on the resilience of the human spirit during the Holocaust. She was the wife of Rabbi Isaiah Pinchas Rotenberg, a prominent Jerusalem rabbinical judge and author.

Born in Antwerp, Belgium, to Rabbi Shalom David Horowitz, a survivor who helped rebuild Orthodox Judaism in Europe after the war, Rotenberg was raised in a family dedicated to Torah study and acts of kindness. She married Rabbi Rotenberg and supported his extensive rabbinical work for decades, demonstrating immense devotion and self-sacrifice.

Known for her exceptional character, she was deeply committed to charity, helping the needy, and always greeting others with warmth. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors, she dedicated her life to sharing stories of Jewish heroism and faith during the Shoah. Her book, lectures, and accompanying trips to Poland became a beacon of memory and faith for many.

The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday evening at 9:00 PM from the GRA Synagogue in the Beit Vagan neighborhood of Jerusalem, followed by burial at Har HaMenuchot cemetery. The family will observe Shiva (mourning) at her home in Beit Vagan, Jerusalem, until the eve of the holiday. Specific visiting hours and locations for mourning relatives in Jerusalem and Bnei Brak have also been announced.
