Israel's Attorney General Considers Disqualifying Balad Party Leader
Israel's Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Issman have responded to a request to disqualify Sami Abushahada, the leader of the Balad party, from running in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. In their response, they stated that evidence, particularly from an article Abushahada published on October 8, 2023, suggests he expressed support for an armed struggle by a terror organization against the State of Israel.
Consequently, the Central Elections Committee must "seriously consider" the disqualification request, adhering to legal standards and taking into account Abushahada's arguments presented to the committee.
