Israel U21 Coach Guy Luzon to Depart After European Qualifiers

Israel U21 national team coach Guy Luzon announced he will leave his position at the end of the current European Championship qualifying campaign. Luzon, whose team is currently second in Group G, expressed his commitment to the upcoming crucial matches against Slovenia and Norway.

"I need to bring myself, the knowledge and experience I have gained," Luzon stated in an interview with Sport 5. He emphasized the importance of qualifying for the European Championship, calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Luzon also commented on player Orri Goren, stating he was impressed by his recent performances for Barcelona Athletic but would assess him closely before deciding on his starting role, noting that age is less important than merit.

Luzon acknowledged the promotion of Nikita Stavianov and Said Abu Farchi to the senior national team, stating that the U21 team's purpose is to develop players for the senior squad. He expressed confidence in his current defenders and mentioned that Steifman might join the U21 team after the match against Austria. Daniel Dapa, who has been finding his rhythm, is also in contention for a starting spot if he proves his worth.

Regarding players in Major League Soccer, Luzon believes playing in Europe at the highest level is ideal but respects their choices, hoping they eventually move to top European clubs. He reiterated his intention to leave after the campaign concludes, expressing optimism about the team's chances to reach the playoffs for the third time in history. Luzon concluded by expressing a strong desire to return to coaching a club team, stating he is "very hungry" for the challenge, while remaining fully focused on the upcoming decisive matches for the youth national team.
