Israel U21 Coach Guy Luzon to Depart After European Championship Qualifiers

Israel's U21 national football team coach, Guy Luzon, announced that he will leave his position at the end of the current European Championship qualifying campaign. Luzon, whose team is currently second in Group G, expressed his commitment to the upcoming crucial matches against Slovenia and Norway.

Luzon emphasized the importance of the qualifiers, stating, "I need to bring myself, the knowledge and experience I have gained." He also highlighted the significance of reaching the European Championship, calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." The coach confirmed his intention to depart after the campaign concludes, regardless of the outcome, but expressed optimism about the team's chances to qualify for the playoffs for the third time in history.

Discussing individual players, Luzon praised Orri Goren, who he has called up after observing his recent performances for Barcelona Athletic, though he noted that playing time would depend on merit, not age. He also commented on the promotion of Nikita Stavyanov and Said Abu Farchi to the senior national team, stating that the U21 team's purpose is to develop players for the senior squad. Luzon also mentioned Daniel Dapa, who is finding his rhythm, and potentially Steifman joining the U21 squad.

Regarding players in Major League Soccer, Luzon acknowledged that playing in Europe is preferable for development but respects their choices. He concluded by expressing a strong desire to return to coaching a club team, stating, "I miss coaching a team and I am very hungry." He reiterated that his full focus is currently on the two decisive upcoming matches for the U21 team, for which they have been preparing for over a year.
