German Car of the Year 2027 Finalists Announced

The "German Car of the Year" competition has revealed its finalists for 2027, with the grand winner set to be announced in November. The finalists span various categories, many of which are already familiar to the Israeli market, with some expected to arrive soon.

In the compact car category, the Kia PV5 was selected, despite its classification as a mid-size commercial vehicle rather than a compact car, with a price range of 25,000-40,000 euros. This model, which also offers a passenger configuration, is anticipated to join the local market by the end of the year.

The performance car of the year is the Hyundai Ioniq 6N, an electric sedan based on the acclaimed Ioniq 5N. The premium car of the year is the third-generation Mercedes GLC, priced between 40,000-70,000 euros. This model, which arrived in Israel in June, offers up to 489 horsepower and a range of 663 km across its three powertrain options.

For the luxury car category, above 70,000 euros, the XPeng X9 minivan has been nominated. This large minivan, which landed in Israel in July, features a 347 horsepower electric powertrain delivering a 615 km range and a luxurious interior.

Additional awards include the Porsche 911 Turbo S for engine of the year, boasting a new 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine producing 711 horsepower, making it the most powerful 911 to date. The Renault Twingo Electric was recognized for its exterior design; this fully electric, five-door retro-styled model, launched in November 2025, is hoped to reach the Israeli market despite no current arrival date.
