Metz Sporting Director Reveals Why Morgan Boukela Transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv Collapsed
Maccabi Tel Aviv was close to signing winger Morgan Boukela from French club Metz during the recent transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through at the last minute. Metz's sporting director, Frédéric Arpion, revealed in a French media interview that all terms had been agreed upon with the Israeli club.
However, Arpion explained that the transfer collapsed because Maccabi Tel Aviv was unable to offload another player from their squad. This inability to free up a roster spot prevented them from finalizing the signing of Boukela.
Boukela, who had shown interest in joining Maccabi Tel Aviv, remained with Metz as the transfer did not materialize. The club had a strong start to their 2026/27 Israeli Premier League season, winning their first five matches, and had also recently acquired players Gabi Kanyukovsky and James Tavernier.
