Israeli Government Map Site Accidentally Reveals Gaza Military Sites

Israel's official government mapping website, Govmap, has inadvertently revealed the locations of at least 11 Israeli military facilities within the Gaza Strip. High-resolution aerial images from 2025, recently published without censorship in northern Gaza's buffer zone, clearly show these installations. This marks a significant departure from the site's standard policy of blurring the entire Gaza Strip and sensitive security locations.

The updated imagery also depicts extensive destruction in Palestinian towns resulting from three years of conflict between the IDF and Hamas. The unusual change was first identified on Monday by an open-source intelligence (OSINT) account named "Stinky," which specializes in verifying geographic locations in Gaza.

It remains unclear whether the removal of the censorship was intentional or an error. Previously, Govmap blurred all of Gaza up to the border fence, mirroring the censorship applied to military bases within Israel and the West Bank.

The OSINT account operator highlighted that the exposed images provide unprecedented information, as alternative satellite services offer only low-resolution pictures, and commercial services like Google Maps have only updated high-quality imagery in parts of southern and central Gaza.

The IDF stated to The Times of Israel that the matter of the image publication is under review. The management of the Govmap website has not yet issued a response.
