Israeli Hospitals Operate on Shabbat Schedule for Yom Kippur
As Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, begins, hospitals across Israel have transitioned to their "Shabbat mode" of operation. This means a reduced number of medical staff are on duty, though additional personnel can be called in if necessary. Emergency medical services will continue to function throughout the 25-hour fast.
For urgent medical needs, the Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service can be reached by dialing 101. MDA advises the public to drink plenty of water, limit caffeine intake, and avoid salty foods before the fast commences. Individuals with chronic medical conditions, the elderly, and pregnant women are encouraged to consult their doctors beforehand.
The public is urged to seek medical attention if they experience severe weakness, dizziness, nausea, or other symptoms indicative of dehydration.
