Israel Boosts Security Operations in West Bank After Deadly Attack

Following a fatal shooting attack in the Benjamin region, Israeli security forces launched extensive operations across the West Bank on Sunday, coinciding with the eve of Yom Kippur. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Civil Administration, Shin Bet security agency, and the Police's Judea and Samaria district deployed reinforced units, including dozens of battalions and commando forces, to prevent and thwart terror. These forces, under the command of the Judea and Samaria Division, conducted defensive and offensive actions.

In the wake of the attack that killed Natanel Shicron, authorities imposed a lockdown on several villages in the Benjamin Brigade area and initiated offensive operations throughout the West Bank. This includes a significant intelligence effort by Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman) and the Shin Bet targeting dozens of locations, with broad counter-terrorism operations commencing overnight across the command's sector.

IDF soldiers, in cooperation with the Shin Bet and police, are also preparing to arrest suspects believed to have aided the attacker and are conducting a brigade-level operation in the village from which the assailant originated. Forces are expected to map the terrorist's home overnight for subsequent demolition.

Earlier Sunday, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir visited the scene of the attack in Naveh Tzuf, where Shicron, a father of six, was killed while visiting a spring with his son. During a situation assessment, Zamir ordered the lockdown, the continued pursuit of accomplices, and the sealing and demolition of the attacker's home. "This is a difficult attack, and I send our condolences to the victim's family. We achieved a swift closure, the despicable terrorist was apprehended by IDF forces. Our mission is not over, we will impose a lockdown on the village, conduct investigations, and thereby reach everyone who aided the terrorist," Zamir stated.

He added, "On the eve of Yom Kippur, we reinforced forces in the field and placed units on standby for immediate deployment. On this holy day, as the people of Israel gather for Yom Kippur prayers, the IDF continues to stand guard. The IDF is on high alert, deployed and prepared with reinforced forces in all sectors, including during the fast. Our mission is clear and ongoing, to thwart terror, act decisively against any threat, and protect the citizens of Israel."
