CIA Director Meets Egyptian President in Cairo Amid Regional Tensions
The Director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, held a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo during a rare visit. The meeting occurred amid significant warnings from the United States about the rapid escalation of the war in the Middle East.
According to the Egyptian presidency's office, the discussions, which also included Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad, focused on current military actions in Iran, Gaza, and Sudan. Participants also addressed recent attacks on Persian Gulf countries and emerging threats to international maritime security.
President el-Sisi emphasized the paramount importance of resolving all regional crises exclusively through political and diplomatic means, as stated by the Egyptian presidential administration. This visit by the U.S. delegation followed shortly after President el-Sisi's talks in Cairo with Saudi Arabia's de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Egyptian presidential office representatives also noted that the CIA director highly valued Egypt's crucial role in supporting efforts aimed at achieving peaceful and comprehensive settlements to end ongoing regional conflicts.
