Senior IDF Officers Hold Strategic Talks with Egyptian Military in Cairo

A delegation of senior Israeli Defense Forces officers visited Cairo over the past two days to conduct discussions with high-ranking Egyptian military officials, despite the historically tense relations between the two countries. The meetings, reported on Thursday evening by Kan News, included the Israeli officers attending a World Cup soccer match between Egypt and Argentina alongside their Egyptian hosts.

According to informed sources, the talks were part of a strategic dialogue focusing on the shared interests of Israel and Egypt in the region. These discussions took place amid ongoing efforts to advance the next phase in Gaza, following a framework proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Hamas continues to refuse to disarm, complicating the situation.

Egypt is viewed as more hostile toward Hamas compared to other mediators like Qatar and Turkey. Recently, Egypt even proposed taking custody of Hamas's weapons as a form of guarantee. Within the Israeli defense establishment, Egyptian mediation is preferred over that of other intermediaries, reflecting a strategic alignment despite broader diplomatic tensions.
