Senior IDF Officers Hold Strategic Talks with Egyptian Military in Cairo Amid Gaza Tensions
A delegation of senior Israeli Defense Forces officers visited Cairo over the past two days to engage in strategic discussions with high-ranking Egyptian military officials, despite the historically tense relations between the two countries. The meetings, reported on Thursday evening by Kan News, focused on shared regional interests and were part of ongoing efforts to advance the next phase in Gaza, following a framework proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. During their visit, the Israeli officers also watched the dramatic Egypt-Argentina World Cup match alongside their Egyptian hosts.
The talks come amid Hamas's continued refusal to disarm, with Egypt taking a tougher stance toward the group compared to other mediators like Qatar and Turkey. Recently, Egypt even proposed holding Hamas's weapons in custody as a form of security deposit. Israeli defense officials reportedly prefer Egyptian mediation over that of other intermediaries. These developments occur against the backdrop of ongoing regional security concerns, including statements from Israeli officials about readiness for renewed operations against Iran if necessary.
