Hamas Delegation Heads to Cairo with New Ceasefire Demands in Gaza Talks
A Hamas delegation is traveling to Cairo to continue ceasefire negotiations with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. According to the Saudi channel Al-Sharq, Hamas has expressed willingness to immediately sign an agreement to implement the second phase of the ceasefire, provided several conditions are met. These include a complete halt to all Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacks and military operations, a gradual disarmament process where weapons are collected and stored by the Palestinian Authority, and a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Hamas also insists that the issue of weapons should not be linked to Gaza's reconstruction and demands an expansion of supply truck access into the territory. On the administrative side, the group seeks to transfer management authority to a technocratic committee and establish a representative council of Palestinian terrorist organizations in Gaza to coordinate actions with the international stabilization force.
Senior Hamas official abroad, Taher al-Nunu, stated that the discussions aim to solidify the ceasefire and advance to the second phase agreement. Mediators are currently awaiting Israel's response to Hamas's updated proposal and comments ahead of planned meetings in Cairo.
