EuroLeague Power Rankings Predict Mixed Fortunes for Israeli Teams

As the 2026-27 EuroLeague season approaches, with tip-off just four days away, a new power ranking from Eurohoops offers a glimpse into the expected performance of participating teams, including Israeli clubs.

Panathinaikos is projected to lead the league, followed by reigning European champions Olympiacos and Real Madrid in third place. Among the Israeli representatives, Hapoel Tel Aviv is ranked seventh, a position that suggests they will be contenders for the play-in tournament. Eurohoops noted Hapoel's deep roster and their ability to reach the playoffs last season despite off-court issues, predicting a similar outcome this year, while acknowledging that playing games in Bulgaria could be a factor.

Hapoel Tel Aviv is expected to compete for a play-in spot alongside teams like Ivan Navarro's Crvena Zvezda, Anadolu Efes (which has signed Mike James and Matthew Strazel), and Valencia, which rounds out the top ten.

In contrast, Maccabi Tel Aviv is predicted to miss the playoffs entirely. The ranking suggests that while Maccabi will need to fight for a top-ten spot, their chances are diminished by not playing in Tel Aviv. The report implies that playing in their home city would have likely secured them a playoff berth.

Other teams mentioned in the rankings include Maccabi's opening-week opponent, ASVEL, and Hapoel's opponent, Bayern Munich, both placed in the bottom half of the rankings at 15th and 16th respectively. Virtus Bologna is ranked 20th.
