US Embassy Warns Americans in Israel of Unforeseen Escalation Risk

The United States Embassy in Israel issued an unusual and urgent travel warning to American citizens in the region late Saturday night. The advisory cited rising tensions between Iran-backed Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia, expressing concern over a potential wider escalation in the Middle East.

The embassy urged citizens to "increase their vigilance due to the tensions in the Middle East," stating that "there is a potential for unforeseen escalation." It also recommended that Americans regularly check flight statuses at Israeli airports before traveling.

The warning specifically mentioned that "Houthi rebels supported by Iran are engaged in hostile actions against Saudi Arabia, including attacks targeting civilian airports." It reiterated the possibility of a "rapid escalation of this military confrontation" and advised American citizens traveling to or from the region to closely monitor port and airline activity.

Furthermore, the embassy echoed concerns about potential threats to additional U.S. interests globally. "U.S. diplomatic missions, even outside the Middle East, have been targets of attacks in the past," the advisory noted.
