Netanyahu Eyes Top Media Role for Close Ally Yaakov Bardugo

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed interest in appointing his confidant Yaakov Bardugo to a senior position related to the media system should he form the next government, according to a report in Haaretz. Citing sources within the Likud party, the report states that Netanyahu desires "an assertive person for the role, who will succeed in leading reforms in the communications market."

Bardugo, formerly a commentator for Channel 14, was recently placed in the 11th spot on the Likud party's list, prompting his departure from the network. Bardugo explained his move by suggesting it followed a direct request from Netanyahu. "When the prime minister approaches you and tells you that in the next campaign he wants you by his side, not as an outside commentator but as someone who comes in and becomes a partner, you listen," Bardugo stated.

He also commented on the upcoming election cycle and his expectations for its agenda. "This term was a term of external wars," Bardugo said, adding, "The next term, in my estimation, will be different. It will largely be the term in which we return to fighting for the home front."

The possibility of Bardugo's appointment comes amid his transition from commentary and media to political activity and follows controversy surrounding the placement of Channel 14 personnel on the Likud list.
