Hamas Official Urges Mediators to Halt Israeli Attacks, Ease Gaza Crisis

Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas's political bureau, held intensive calls with mediators over the weekend, citing "dangerous developments in the Gaza Strip and escalating Israeli targeting of our people." He also noted the collapse of residential buildings damaged by the war, which resulted in casualties. According to a Hamas statement released Sunday, al-Hayya warned of worsening humanitarian risks as winter approaches.

Al-Hayya criticized Israel for preventing the entry of heavy machinery needed for debris removal and securing buildings threatened with collapse. He also highlighted restrictions on bringing in mobile homes, tents, and cold-weather supplies, leaving tens of thousands in unsafe shelter conditions. He emphasized the danger of escalating assassinations in Gaza and ongoing attacks in the West Bank and Al-Aqsa Mosque, stating these actions undermine opportunities for calm and stability.

He further asserted that these actions, alongside restrictions on relief, recovery, and reconstruction, obstruct commitments outlined in former U.S. President Donald Trump's plan. Al-Hayya urged mediators and relevant parties to pressure Israel to adhere to agreements, particularly regarding the first phase, which includes halting targeting and assassinations and allowing the unimpeded entry of heavy machinery, rescue equipment, shelter supplies, and other necessities for winter.

Mediators confirmed during their calls their continued efforts to aid Gaza and meet urgent humanitarian needs. They also stated they would continue engaging with influential parties to push for the implementation of agreements and fulfill their obligations.
