Elderly Woman Rescued After Falling Into Ashdod Trash Bin While Saving Cat

An 89-year-old woman was rescued from a three-meter-deep underground trash bin in Ashdod on Saturday morning after falling in while attempting to save a cat. Firefighters and Magen David Adom paramedics worked together with police to extract the woman from the bin, lowering a ladder to reach her.

The woman had reportedly gone out to feed stray cats, a regular habit, when she noticed a cat had fallen into the deep bin. She attempted to rescue the animal but fell in herself. Her cries for help were not heard due to the depth of the bin.

After she failed to return home, her family reported her missing. Police and Magen David Adom volunteers launched an extensive search across the city, receiving special rabbinical permission for the search on Shabbat due to concerns for her life.

She was located in the afternoon by Magen David Adom volunteers Chaim Guttman and Effi Graidinger. They provided her with water and reassurance until rescue forces arrived. After being extricated by firefighters, she was medically evaluated at the scene and transported to the hospital suffering from exhaustion and mild dehydration.
