Maccabi Hadera Wins "Gerry" Women's Volleyball Tournament

Maccabi Hadera secured victory in the third annual "Gerry" women's volleyball tournament, defeating Hapoel Kfar Saba 2-1 in a closely contested final. The decisive final set ended with a score of 15-12 in favor of Hadera.

The tournament, held in memory of Gerry Abramovitz, who passed away two years and three months ago, honored his significant contributions to sports, particularly volleyball. The memorial ceremony, attended by sports figures, club players, family members, and hundreds of fans at the Kfar Saba hall named in his honor, highlighted Abramovitz's vision. His efforts transformed Hapoel Kfar Saba into a leading club in Israel, emphasizing youth development and making sports accessible to children and teenagers from all societal backgrounds. Abramovitz believed that sport was not just about winning but a way of life and a means of educating for values. During his tenure, Hapoel Kfar Saba won seven league championships and seven state cups.

M.S. Ramat Aviv finished in third place, defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0. Maccabi Hadera showcased a talented team featuring three foreign players. Hapoel Kfar Saba, under new coach Itay Bachrach, presented a young and ambitious squad, built around promising young players alongside veteran captain Galit Dvash and one foreign player, Brazilian middle blocker Tamires Silva de Melo.

Gerry Abramovitz's wife, Ofra Abramovitz, spoke about his dedication, stating, "Gerry was a man of action. He understood that everyone needs to leave something behind. Gerry believed it wasn't enough to ask another person what was good for them, but always asked what he could give to others, and what he was leaving for the future. Gerry didn't live for himself, but did things so that others could also enjoy them. And today Gerry is no longer here, but something of him remains and continues to grow and give to others."

Hapoel Kfar Saba captain Galit Dvash, who joined the club thanks to Abramovitz, recounted, "17 years ago, Gerry Abramovitz saved Hapoel Kfar Saba from dissolution and brought it back to life, making it not just a successful club, but a community. Gerry did a lot to ensure that the senior teams would strive for achievements and compete for titles, and at the same time established a young and successful department with over a thousand male and female players."
