Rabid Dog Confirmed in Haramish; Public Urged to Seek Treatment

Israel's Ministry of Health reported on September 18, 2026, the confirmation of a rabid dog in the town of Haramish. An epidemiological investigation is ongoing.

Individuals who had contact with the infected dog or any stray animals between September 1 and September 18, 2026, are urged to immediately visit the Netanya Health Bureau at 18 Ben Zvi Street, Netanya, or their nearest health office. This is to assess the need for preventative rabies treatment. After hours and on weekends, individuals should go directly to a hospital emergency room without an appointment.

The Ministry of Health specifically requested parents to inquire if their children were in the area and had contact with the dog or stray animals, and to seek medical attention if necessary. Pet owners whose animals may have come into contact with the rabid dog should consult their local authority veterinarian for guidance.

Residents are asked to disseminate this information to others in the area and neighboring towns who may have been present during the specified period. In the event of a bite or scratch from an animal, the wound should be immediately washed with soap and running water for approximately 10 minutes, disinfected, and medical attention sought promptly at a health office to evaluate the need for post-exposure prophylaxis.
