Eitan Burg Aims for Defensive Role in Hapoel Jerusalem's Success

Hapoel Jerusalem advanced to the quarterfinals of the Winner Cup basketball tournament on Friday with an 83-69 victory over Hapoel Be'er Sheva/Dimona. The team dominated inside despite a poor shooting night from beyond the arc. Luvell Lovell led Be'er Sheva/Dimona with 25 points, 6 assists, and 5 steals, but it wasn't enough.

For Hapoel Jerusalem, Eitan Burg scored 16 points, Kenny Lofton added 15, and Shai Milt lead with 13. Burg, a guard, expressed his satisfaction with playing for his hometown team, emphasizing the importance of the home crowd. He stated his personal goal is to become a significant defensive player, a strategy encouraged by the coaching staff to earn playing time.

"If you want to play for this team, you first have to earn your place through defense," Burg recounted the coaches' advice. He acknowledged Tamir Blatt as the top Israeli player on the team, stating he still has a long way to go to reach that level. Burg also addressed his shooting struggles, noting that resilience is key and he will continue to shoot.

Looking ahead, Burg anticipates a tough challenge in the next round against Herzliya and believes the team needs to improve significantly to compete for titles. However, he expressed confidence in the coaching staff and his teammates, highlighting their commitment and desire to succeed.
