Ed Sheeran Faces Boycotts After Rapper's Removal From Tour

Ed Sheeran's tour is embroiled in controversy following the removal of rapper Macklemore, who had expressed strong pro-Palestinian sentiments during his opening sets. Several artists scheduled to perform alongside Sheeran have withdrawn in protest of Macklemore's exclusion. Additionally, pro-Palestinian organizations are planning a demonstration outside the Philadelphia venue for Sheeran's upcoming concert.

The situation escalated when Macklemore, who had been using his opening performances to criticize U.S. immigration policies and advocate for Palestinians, chanting "Free Palestine" and displaying images from Gaza, faced backlash. The Israeli-American Council reportedly called for his removal, and stadiums threatened to cancel the tour dates if he remained part of the lineup. Irish radio station Classic Hits announced it would cease playing Sheeran's music indefinitely, citing the controversy surrounding Macklemore's removal. Sheeran himself has attempted to remain neutral, stating he was "shocked" by the conflict and calling suffering on both sides a humanitarian tragedy, while also pledging $2 million to humanitarian aid and encouraging stadium owner Robert Kraft to match the donation.

Despite Sheeran's efforts to avoid political entanglement and his humanitarian pledges, the backlash continues. The decision to remove Macklemore was reportedly made by tour organizers and the stadiums, not Sheeran directly.
