Two Torah Scrolls Dedicated to Fallen Southern District Police Officers

An emotional ceremony was held yesterday, Thursday, at the Southern District's SAR Unit (Special Patrol Unit) to mark the dedication of two Torah scrolls. These scrolls were written in memory of five officers from the unit who fell during their service, including in the October 7th attacks. The scrolls are intended to honor their memory, legacy, and souls.

The event was attended by the Inspector General of the Police, Commissioner Daniel Levi, along with other senior police officials, commanders, officers, and the bereaved families. The ceremony began at the home of the Guili family, where the Torah scrolls were written with the participation of family members, commanders, and guests. A festive procession then moved to the SAR Unit, where the scrolls were placed in the unit's synagogue.

During the event, a memorial wall dedicated to the fallen officers was unveiled, and memorial candles were lit. Prayers were offered to honor their actions, bravery, and legacy. The two Torah scrolls were dedicated to the memory of Sergeant Major Ran (Roni) Guili, Sergeant Major Alexei Bodovsky, and Sergeant Major Uriel Avraham, all of whom fell in combat on October 7, 2023. Also honored were Sergeant Major Eli'az Maimon, who died in a road accident in 1994, and Sergeant Major Niv Simon Bohbot, who died in a road accident in April 2026.

Inspector General Levi stated that the Torah scrolls are more than just holy books; they symbolize remembrance, continuity, and the deep connection between generations. He added that their legacy will continue to guide the SAR Unit and all police officers, serving as a source of strength, values, and commitment to Israel's security. The dedication underscores the Israel Police's commitment to preserving the memory and legacy of the fallen, perpetuating their deeds, and instilling the values of duty, bravery, and camaraderie in future generations of officers.
