Officer Who Fatally Shot Man in Umm al-Fahm Placed Under House Arrest

An Israeli police officer who shot and killed Alaa Mahamid in Umm al-Fahm on Thursday has been released under restrictive conditions following an investigation. The officer, who is part of the Border Police's tactical unit, was placed under house arrest for five days, banned from police stations for two weeks, and barred from Umm al-Fahm for 30 days. The incident occurred when officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle on Route 65. According to police, the driver, identified as Mahamid, failed to stop and drove erratically, endangering other road users. When officers tried to arrest him, police claim Mahamid exited his vehicle and attacked one of the officers, who then felt his life was in danger and opened fire, fatally wounding Mahamid. The officer's actions were investigated by the Police Internal Investigations Department (Mahash).
