Palestinian Journalist Nabaa Hamed Detained by Israeli Forces

A military court extended the detention of Palestinian journalist Nabaa Hamed until next Wednesday, according to her lawyer, Khaled Mahajna. Hamed was arrested by Israeli forces on Tuesday evening near the town of Tuqu', southeast of Bethlehem, while returning from a journalistic assignment in Masafer Yatta. She was working with a media team for the Turkish channel TRT.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported that Israeli forces stopped the vehicle Hamed was traveling in, checked the IDs of the team members, separated her from her colleagues, and took her to an unknown location, while the rest of the crew was released. Prior to her arrest, Hamed had been subjected to a incitement campaign by settlers due to her journalistic work and coverage of events in the town of Qusra, south of Nablus. This led her to leave her work as a correspondent and become an independent producer, according to the "Mada" center.

Hamed, a freelance journalist working with several foreign media outlets, is from the village of Beitunia, east of Ramallah. She is married with three children and holds American citizenship, according to journalistic sources and the Journalists Syndicate. Mahajna stated on "X" that Hamed's arrest was preceded by settler incitement, adding that the Palestinian journalist is "pursued for the picture they take, the testimony they convey, and the truth they insist on reaching."

The extension of Hamed's detention comes amid the ongoing detention of dozens of Palestinian journalists by Israeli authorities. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate announced on Thursday that the number of detained journalists has risen to 39.
