Phoenix Smart's Taxi Driver Ad Tops Favorite Commercials List
The top-ranked favorite advertisement this week is from Phoenix Smart, part of a long-running campaign by The First agency. The ad features the popular character Asher, a taxi driver played by Yuval Semo from the satirical show "Eretz Nehederet." This installment focuses on travel insurance for holidays abroad. In the commercial, when a passenger asks for a recommendation, Asher sarcastically suggests showering in the Ben Gurion Airport fountain before promoting the insurance product. He then looks out the window, encounters alternate versions of himself, and makes aviation-related jokes, such as suggesting travel to "Macronesia" instead of Micronesia, which resonate well with the audience due to the familiar and beloved taxi driver persona.
The "micro-drama" trend is also evident in Mizrahi Tefahot Bank's new video series, starring Gila Ba'ar Gurevich and Dvir Benedek. The series, titled "In the Kitchen of Cafe Zion," offers a behind-the-scenes look at a new café and features the character Dominique's self-admiration. Full episodes are available on Mako, and the promotional ad ranks third in recall.
According to Yifat Advertising Control data, the Central Elections Committee made the largest advertising investment this week, spending approximately 3.8 million shekels on various campaigns for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections in late October. The second-largest investment, around 2.7 million shekels, came from the streaming platform Free TV, which launched testimonial videos to attract new subscribers and a promotion for "Jerusalem Selichot," a live broadcast from the Sultan's Pool. This campaign ranked tenth in recall. The third-highest investment, approximately 1.8 million shekels, was from Osem for a Bamba snack advertisement encouraging Israelis to choose the "Seven Wonders of Israel", the country's most recommended travel destinations. The ad, featuring the Bamba baby and Israeli nature, ranked second in favorability and ninth in recall.
Overall advertising spending decreased from 86 million shekels last week to 63 million shekels this week. The agencies responsible for the most popular ads were The Digital for Phoenix Smart and McCann Tel Aviv for Osem. This weekly ranking, published for the past 20 years and based on Geocartography data, analyzes trends, unique creative work, and digital strategies. The rankings include the entire Israeli population, including the Arab community.
