Miri Mesika Releases "Avinu Malkeinu" Amid Rising Antisemitism

Israeli singer Miri Mesika has released a live performance of the prayer "Avinu Malkeinu" (Our Father, Our King) in anticipation of the Ten Days of Repentance. The performance was recorded as part of an event initiated by the Ministry of Heritage.

In a statement accompanying the release, Mesika discussed her connection to her Jewish and Israeli identity. She expressed pride in her heritage, calling it a great gift and privilege. Mesika noted that she never imagined living in a time when antisemitic blood libels are widespread, reminiscent of history's darkest periods.

Mesika stated that the current era has strengthened her connection to her Jewish identity. She emphasized that Israelis are not shying away from their Jewish and Israeli identity but are holding onto it even more tightly. She specifically mentioned the prayer's plea, "Have mercy on us and on our children and our infants," which has taken on a deeper meaning for her since October 7th.

Looking ahead to the new year, Mesika concluded with a prayer for a year of light, peace, and security. She expressed hope for forgiveness, continued unity, and kindness towards one another, believing this unity will protect them from all enemies.
