Maccabi Haifa Sets Boundaries on Fan Protests, Improves Stadium Accessibility

Maccabi Haifa Football Club issued a comprehensive statement to its fans on Thursday, addressing various issues including fan protests, the introduction of cheering equipment, stadium accessibility improvements at Sammy Ofer Stadium, and the potential for not purchasing tickets for an away game against Hapoel Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium.

Regarding fan protests, the club affirmed its respect for freedom of expression and the fans' right to protest, but clearly defined boundaries. "Protest and freedom of expression, yes. Degradation and violation of human dignity, no," the statement read. Maccabi Haifa indicated it would recommend approving legitimate protest signs but would not permit threats, violence, personal harassment, degradation, humiliation, or expressions that violate the law.

Concurrently, the club is working to enhance conditions for fan organizations. Following the summer's arrangement for cheering equipment storage at Sammy Ofer, a specialized crane, the first of its kind in Israel, is expected to arrive soon. It will be installed during the international break and will enable the display of large banners across the entire northern stand. The club is also collaborating with fan groups and other clubs to establish a uniform and transparent procedure for bringing in cheering equipment.

Accessibility was another key focus. A pilot program with Golso canteens is underway to provide service to those eligible for queue exemptions. Additionally, "quiet zones" have been established in the stadium for individuals with combat-related hearing loss, along with options for separate, less crowded entry. A direct and discreet helpline for fans experiencing violence, harassment, emotional distress, accessibility issues, or unusual incidents has also been launched.

In anticipation of the away match against Hapoel Jerusalem, Maccabi Haifa is awaiting a final decision on whether the game will be held at Teddy Stadium. If it proceeds there, the club stated it would act based on conclusions from previous events, including the possibility of not purchasing tickets from the host team. The club pledged to update fans once final details are confirmed.
