Prominent Rabbi Questions Support for Noam Party Based on Results

Rabbi Yossi Rodriguez, head of the Eilat Yeshiva and a senior figure among the "Yeshivot HaKod" (line yeshivas), has published a letter addressing the upcoming Knesset elections and the question of supporting the Noam party. While expressing deep admiration for Rabbi Tzvi Tau, a prominent leader in the Religious Zionist community, Rabbi Rodriguez emphasized that support for any political party, including Noam, should be contingent on its practical achievements.

In his letter, Rabbi Rodriguez lauded Rabbi Tau as "the greatest of our generation" and praised his profound understanding of Torah and his foresight in navigating the processes of redemption. He stated, "I am but dust at his feet and his Torah." However, he drew a distinction between spiritual leadership and political activity.

Rabbi Rodriguez asserted that politics is a practical endeavor that must yield tangible results. He argued that while spiritual insight is necessary to identify needs, effective political action requires persuasion and the creation of consensus to achieve outcomes. He noted that even a rabbi can be a politician, but their practical success will be measured by practical criteria.

He further elaborated that if the Noam party is indeed advancing fundamental principles and capable of implementing them in practice, then support for it is certainly warranted. Conversely, he stated, if practical results are not forthcoming, then the decision to support or not support the party should be based on whether it is a "good or bad politician," and such critical evaluation should not be seen as disrespecting Rabbi Tau's path or stature.
