Rabbis Express Skepticism Over Noam Party's Electoral Prospects

Rabbi Yossi Rodriguez, head of the religious Zionist yeshiva Ayelet Ha'Shachar in Eilat, has published a letter addressing the upcoming Knesset elections and the advisability of supporting the Noam party. While expressing respect for Rabbi Tzvi Tau, the spiritual leader and inspiration behind Noam, Rodriguez emphasized that politics requires practical results alongside spiritual vision. He stated that supporting Noam is only justified if the party can achieve its goals within the framework of Torah, otherwise, it should be viewed as a standard political project. Rodriguez clarified that critically analyzing Noam's performance does not constitute disrespect towards Rabbi Tau's authority.

Earlier, Rabbi Yosef Kellner sharply criticized the Noam party, agreeing with its ideological platform but questioning its practical utility and ability to enact real change. Kellner stated he has not seen convincing political achievements from the party and expressed hope that its leader, Avi Maoz, would withdraw his candidacy to avoid "burning" right-wing votes. When asked if he would vote for Noam in hopes of an electoral breakthrough, Kellner responded, "One does not rely on miracles."

The Noam party, founded in 2019 under Rabbi Tzvi Tau's spiritual guidance, is known for its anti-LGBT rhetoric, opposition to "progressivism," defense of traditional family values, and aims to increase religion's influence in public life and state institutions. It first entered the Knesset in the 24th session as part of a joint list with other religious Zionist parties. Avi Maoz, representing Noam, previously served as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and headed the Authority for the Strengthening of and National Identity.
