Ben Gurion Airport Braces for Busiest Day of Year Ahead of Holiday Weekend
Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is anticipating its busiest travel day of the year today, with over 100,000 passengers expected to pass through. This surge comes just before a long holiday weekend, including Yom Kippur, and follows a record-breaking August.
September is projected to see approximately 2.5 million travelers, with several days, including today, September 20, and September 25, expected to exceed 100,000 passengers. Passengers should prepare for potential queues and delays, particularly at check-in and security checkpoints during peak hours.
Airport authorities have implemented measures to manage the increased passenger volume, including a significant reduction in the number of aircraft parked at the airport. This decrease, from dozens to around 20 planes, eases operational strain and improves the management of flight schedules.
The Israel Airports Authority (IAA) has also issued a warning to travelers arriving by private car, advising them to avoid unauthorized private parking services that offer to collect and return vehicles. The IAA does not operate a valet parking service, and recent complaints include vehicle damage, unauthorized use of cars, fines, and instances where service providers disappeared, leaving owners without recourse.
The IAA recommends using only official airport parking facilities, which offer free shuttle services to terminals. Alternatively, travelers are encouraged to use public transportation, such as the train, to reach the airport. The IAA is taking legal action against unauthorized operators on airport grounds.
