Morocco Air Route Competition Heats Up With New Airline Entry

Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's national airline, may soon resume direct flights to Israel, following a high-level diplomatic summit in New York. The potential return of the Moroccan carrier aims to increase competition on the increasingly popular route between the two countries. Israeli airlines Arkia and Sun D'or already operate flights to Morocco, while Israir previously canceled its service on the route.

The agreement to expand direct flights, including Moroccan airlines, was reached during a trilateral meeting involving Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and the US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Pompeo. This development is expected to offer Israeli travelers more flight options to Morocco.

In addition to aviation, the summit also addressed upgrading diplomatic ties between Israel and Morocco, including elevating their respective representative offices to the ambassadorial level. Foreign Minister Ashkenazi emphasized the deep historical connection between the Israeli and Moroccan peoples and stated that the agreements reached would foster practical steps to deepen bilateral relations.
